Bezirksverwaltung für Staatssicherheit Leipzig

In Leipzig, in the old building of the Bezirksverwaltung für Staatssicherheit (Stasi) now houses a museum that recalls the history of this building and the (dark side of) Stasi in the GDR.

Its use by the Stasi came to an end in December 1989 when this building was occupied by demonstrators.

The demonstrators were fed up with the GDR and especially the Stasi, which suppressed things firmly by means of. espionage from citizen to citizen, opened mail to see if someone was not an "enemy of the state" and other such things. (in the photo a handbag with camera to secretly take pictures with)

And in this (now) museum you can now see how the Stasi tried to keep things down and how the last months of the GDR went and where hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in Leipzig from 04-09-1989 against this injustice . On 09-11-1989 (after a special press conference of Günter Schabowski) the GDR collapsed and the border between east and west got flattened.
